I have a 1994 Lincoln Towncar that I have to get rid of... tomorrow. This thing has almost 250,000 miles on it and as you can imagine the condition of the car reflects that. The car still drives fine after it's warmed up a bit... and I put in couple of hundred bucks to do all the regular oil changes, replaced breaks, etc. about two month's ago. Anyway, I have a new car and I never even use this thing, I just go park it from one side of the street to the other every couple of days and that is it.

Is the car too ****ty to be donated? Should I dump it at a junkyard? and finally what is the whole process with paperwork or what do I do with the plates? Do I even register this somewhere?

Donate it. There are numerous charities that are waiting to take your vehicle, running or not. Check w/ your state DMV and make sure to get all the proper release of liability and non-op forms.

Just because you feel it has little or no value doesn't mean someone wouldn't want it. There are organizations that would take the car, fix whatever needs fixing and either sell it or give it to someone without a car. Do a Google search on "donate a car."

call my brothers yard... he will pick up tommrow

give him(anthony) a call after 9am... he will take it tommrow

WHatever you do, DO NOT JUST DUMP IT! if you take it to a junk yard, make sure you have documentation. IT is possible you can take it to a scrap yard and at least get a few bucks for it. my friend had a car he just dumped off and eventually went to collections for hundreds of dollars in unpaid registration and impound fees.

Post it in Craigslist for 500 to 800 dollars no matter what some one will buy it as is.. Knowing they are buying a 500 dollar car.. Trust me the best way is to post it and put the word out that you have a car for 500 to 800 dollars.. Much better than being robbed by a junk yard for 50 to 100..

I buy 500 dolar cars every couple years cause i hate payments :) And I usually go after the 600 to 800 dollar ones cause i know they can be talked down to 300 to 500 :)

All you need to do is sign the title over and date it.. It real simple.. Thats all the paper work you need to do.. No you do not have to register it anywhere..

Put a for sale sign in it as well. It should sell in 1 to 15 days given you take the first offer over 300.00 :) And when or before it is sold take the Plates off safety measure:)

Again this is a bad idea. Get the form from your DMV for release of liability, have the buyer sign it, and file it ASAP. If the person takes the title you signed home, burns it, then uses the car in a robery, dumps it and gets away, guess who the cops will trace the car to? All the protests on your part telling you sold it to some guy will not save you from, at the least, a trip downtown for questioning and an O.R. release. You will be a suspect in the crime. I may be paraniod, but it happens.

If youre willing to spend a day getting the car really clean someone will give you $500 for it.
If not donate it,some charity will put a running car to good use.

Thanks for all the replies! I had to get rid of the car today which means I do not have the time to bother with cleaning it, putting it up for sale, and talking to the buyers. I called two donation agencies (and Red Cross) and they refused the car because it was over 10 years.

Rayman's brother owns a junkyard in the area and he got me his number, I called him up in the morning and the car is already gone. Signed over the title and got a paper from him stating that the car was taken to this place to be junked. This is exactly what I needed.

Thanks! :)
