-what size do the arapaima average out to in captivity? most of the big ones ive seen in captivity only grows up to 8 ft. would they grow any bigger than that?

-how long before they reach about 6ft in length? i remeber my 1st arapaima is almost at 4 ft by the 2nd yr. unfortunately it passed away in new yr from an fire cracker accident :irked:

-would they rather have a stagnant water of more flowing water? my pond before was pretty stagnant but since im thinking hooking up filters on the new project i wonder if they'd appriciate the flowing water.

-how do you get more of the red markings out on an arapaima? my previous arapaima didnt have that much red on him. he had a nice gold/copper color tho

so far thats its for now
thanks in advance for those who could help

a) It it usually 10 feet or so. Can be bigger,
b) About 4+ years before they reach 6ft. Johnptc has one that his 5 1.2 feet and roughly 4 years old.
c) I would think that these fish like a slow moving water flow, but all water needs to be in circulation.
d) Feed lots of caratoids brings out thier reds. Hikari Massivore is great at this.

what happened?

wild guess, but he may be refering to your firecracker pima incident.

Yea i'm curious about the firecracker death too......

well back home, new year is a very big event. fire crackers shoot through the sky all night long.

one new years morning (Jan 1st) when i was going to feed my arapaima i saw him dead. it made me wonder why, he was perfectly fine the day before. i started to look around the pond to see what have caused it. then i saw a few aerial fire crackers in the pond so i thought i should open up my fishes gut just to be sure. there it was 3 pieces of aerial fire cracker in his stomach. worst part is, that wasn't even our fire cracker:swear::angryfire
