What does the owners manual say, is the max hight from the top of the filter, to the water return in the tank? I have a Tv stand, that was handcrafted by someone in the family that would fit a 55g tank perfectly. However, it is 47 inches tall, and the tank is 18 inches tall.. Making it 65 inches.. minus the 17 inches tall from the filter, =48 inches. I think that is the max on my fluval 304. I was wondering since the fluval is more beefy if it had anymore power just to make sure it'd work.

Also, I was wondering if anyone had a link to a way to make a spray bar for the fx5, I want alot of filtration, but I don't exactly need big ocean currents in the tank:D

Thanks
Cory

the max distance from the top of the filter to the top of the water is 150cm(almost 5 feet) there is a diy fx5 spray bar thread in the diy section. I'll see if i can find the link. if your going to have the max distance from the top of the filter and the top of the water, try not to have alot of slack. you could also always put the fx5 on a small stand.

sorry, cant find the link to the DIY spraybar for the fx5. If your going to do it though, i would say get some 3/4 inch or 1 inch pvc and make lots of holes as the pressure from the fx5 is not going to be like other filters with spray bars. you dont want your spray bar to be more like a pressure washer! I've made them befor for a couple fulval 404's and i found that i hade to mod it a few times(added extra or larger holes) befor i got the flow i was looking for. Post some pics of your process if you do it!

i would think you would need atleast a foot, maybe two for an FX5 spray bar. with many, many holes as stated above. this thing can sure put out some major current.

i have mine twords one end of my 7ft, 250g, and theres still nice current on the other side of the tank.
