So i was reading in some of the stickies and it was saying that you should use non silica sand, which im ok with because i really like the sand look but was curious what brand you guys use or type, as i use the target brand sand in my fw tank but have heard its mostly silica. Question two is that i have come across a good deal, a couple of small teacups for 25$, hes also selling some small motoros for 80$, im totally ok with spending the extra if its a better choice for a newb. Question 3 is would a royal clown knife be a good tankmate? Im building a 4X4X1.5 tank (there will be a guard rail around the upper edge as i have read a few forums on thinking 18 being a minimum and 24 better, so the glass i had is 18 so i figured better safe then sorry. Thanks! (i know the knife will eventually need a bigger tank but its an excuse to give my wife that i absolutely have to go bigger ) :naughty:

i would go with motoros, better starter rays, also u will eventually need to upgrade for the rays as well.... motoros can get a 30" disk..... so add a tail...... if you are going pond then you might just wanna keep it bare bottem.... easier to clean

Yes i have to agree. Went through so bad spikes because of sand and lost two rays. Now i have VERY little sand on the bottom just for them to bury themselves if need to be. Dont even have to vaccum the sand. Much better.

see when i talked to a couple of pool shops they told me pool filter sand wouldnt be a good choice as its generally sharp to help break down the organic material. i dont really know tho as lots of people seem to use it.

if you mean waste..... your BB in the filter will do that.

I think they probably meant that the sand does not trap and hold waste as good as gravel.

I have PFS, besides the factor that is not all that pretty, it works for me. It was cheap and readily available.
