My salvini have recently spawned, eggs hatched 3 days ago. The pair and fry are in a community tank with other cichlids but none that they can defend against. I do worry about my S.acanthomias getting them as he is bigger, extremely fast and doesn't seem to care about the aggressiveness of the cichlids. His den is inches from where the eggs/fry have been and he doesn't seem to even pay attention to them though. Anyway my questions are...

1. When should I remove them, i have another tank waiting.
2. If I keep them in the community tank, how do I make sure they get food and would the feeding practices be the same as if they were in their own tank.

Thanks for any help.

i guess u can put a divider between them...or put them in the other tank...just my opinion...

Do I need to wait till they are bigger to move them or can I do it now?

You can use a fine mesh net to move em to a grow out tank. If there's been no sign of aggression, I'd leave em with the parents.

The fry started to swim too far away from home and the other cichlids were having a field day. I was able to siphon out about 200 and I have them in a 10g right now. They've been in there since Saturday and seem to be doing well.
