hello i have a couple questions i have a 50 gal with striped bass in it there around 6" i want to start putting them on feeder fish ( rosy reds )
my
1st question is how long do i keep them quarantined ?????
2nd question is how many can i keep in a 10 gallon tank
3rd question what do i treat the water with so i dont kill my stripers

and my 4th and final question is can i put 2 baby crayfish in the tank with my stripers ?? and what do i feed them
 
We have crays in most of our tanks and have only had a couple of compatability issues.

If your asking about Quarntineing the feeders. I'd recomend at least a week of good food and melafix. No need to scrafice a tank....A plastic tub will do nicely with a couple of Hydro5 air driven sponge filters in it.

Baby crayfish are almost positively going to get eaten. Crayfish will eat just about anything. I have one in my riverfish tank, he only survives because he NEVER comes out of hiding. But I feed him krill and anything else I'm feeding my fish.

Out of curiosity, why do you wanna get your stripers on feeders? This isn't really the most wonderful diet. Or are you just planning on feeding them as a once in awhile thing?

Oh, another thing about the crayfish. Tight feeding lid. All mine have gotten out of my tank. All but the current one were found dead in random places around my house. Kind of creeped me out the first time I almost stepped on a live crayfish (the one that I still have) when I got out of bed. He didn't seem very amused either, lol. The last one I found dead in my bedroom closet under a coat and didn't realize what it was at first. Thought it was a bigass bug. Luckily no one was there to see the look on my face :D
 
Not at all. Pellets are generally a much safer diet than feeders. If they are eating them now its unlikely they will decide not to when the are larger.
 
Did you catch your stripers or can you actually buy them out there? Don't those get pretty freakin big? :)
 
1) I would quarantine the rosy reds for a week or 2. just dont dop them all in there all at once.(which you probely wont do anyway).

2) You could probely get away with keeping 10-15 feeders in the 10 gal possible even 20, depending on there size and filtration on the 10gal.

3) as for treating the water, do you mean during water changes? if so, just add some good conditioner to treat the tap water.

Nope you can still feed them pellets, krill, worms, bugs, cocktail shrimp, frozen silversides, crustaceans, mollusks, etc.

A diet of primarily feeders is kind of a poor diet since in the wild they'd be eating a huge variance or organisms and the fish they ate would contain all kinds of stuff in their stomachs.

I don't feed any of my fish feeders primarily and will continue to feed pellets and such when they're full grown. You might wanna try massivore pellets once your fish are bigger.
 
quick question when do u plan on getting a bigger tank for your boys? another few months and they will growing out of your 50, your gonna need a huge tank yo keep them as adults.

plus i bet all of us would love to see some pics of these awesome fish.
 
Yeah, post pics. And I would suggest a lifelong diet of pellets with some bloodworm, krill, shrimp treats once or twice a week. Feeders are only really good is you gutload them, and even then all they do is cheer up your fish
