ok for a tank that is 96" X 36" X 48". how thick would the front have to be?

ok and if i was to change shape to 96" X 48" X 36". would this effect the front pressure? and would i have to have thicker acrylic?

i'm not sure how this works.

also is polycarbonate sheet 1/2" thick, as strong as 1"acrylic?

At least 1.5 thick. Trust me, I know. Polycarbonate is stronger in the manner of puncture strength, it is softer and will flex more than cell cast or extruded and will scratch easier. It transmits less light than cell cast acrylic also because it is not as clear. Most people do not make aquariums from polycarbonate for these reasons. Lexan however is very similar to cell cast, it's harder but is unfortunately more expensive.
