I found a guy selling a GATF on craigslit, it is 6'' long

He says it is a true GATF. My question is, is the fish in the pic a true GATF or a VATF, I'm assuming it is the real deal?

Also, I hear these guys can be skittish, when young?? Should I be worried about it crashing into my tank walls? Would it attack my 3'' datnoids?

Thanks

Looks like GATF to me.
Skittish, yes.

Most likely yes it will kill your dat. I doubt they'll do it on purpose, they may shank the dats on accident for being skittish

Nice find... what kind dats you have??

I have a 5" Thinbar with my 15" VATF right now. He dont mess with him at all. GATFs have different personalitys and I would assume the more out going VATF would show signs of aggression before a scared/skittish Goliath. Once Goliaths hit around 14"+ it is said to snap into killer mode. Before then, they are just silver Sardines with teeth.

I would try a Dat, especially since Dats have thick lower bodys.

Personally, I would drop the GATF in with 3" Dats. I also have 3" Dats in a different tank and they are beefy. To thick for the mouth of a Goliath. Also, Goliaths swim mid to top level as most Indos are bottom to wall swimmers Lol. I see no prob with the combo but again just my opinion :D

The Wall Q...
This is one thing I would worry about since Goliaths are clumsy swimmers. They get spooked out of no where and have a hard time feeling the brakes. If you train him to eat non live, I highly suggest heavy foods like sinking pellets, market shrimp, prawn etc... Try to stay away from floating beacuse then you higher the chances of him smashing into the top of the tank for a "Final KO".

Snoop around and you will see big Goliaths with smashed up snouts (I dont think they ever learn). Look around for large VATFs and I have yet to see a smashed snout. I speak from experience and the search engine Lol

I have VATF and he seems to be really active and eats voracioulsy. I only have him alone as I don't trust he will get along with tankmates. He is skittish, but not that bad. I was thinking about getting a GATF, but from what I hear they are too timid, not great eaters, and only when they get large do they become the predators.

My VATF's are skittish but don't crash into the glass at all. I have a 7 incher in a 30g tank and he swims around very accurately and won't crash. I have two other ones sharing a 150g and will swim up to the surface when spooked but never crash.

If I don't divide up the two in the 150g they will fight. I've had one slice the other one pretty bad and had a 2" gash down the body. I'm still waiting for the day when they won't beat each other up. I have Bala sharks in there and when I was late feeding them one weekend the smaller shark almost had it's caudal fin torn off.
