been in salt for a while so forgive me. . .

my tank has been up and running for 4 months now and is fully stocked (for a growout) but my main tank is still torn down. . . anyhow i just bought a penguin 350 biowheel to throw on it as well as my wet/dry that is already running. will putting it on cause any sort of mini cycle or anything?

Also i want to add some hornwort despite my oscar. . . would this have any negative effects given that the tank hasnt been up terribly long?

No, adding an additional filter will not cause anything to go bad.

And no, nothing wrong with adding plants. Always helpful in my experience.

You can add some floating plants, the Oscar will pick everything out from the substrate. Floating plants help with the nitrates too. If you go with floating plants I wouldn't use a HOB (hang-over-the-back) filter. Better go with a canister so that the plants can spread around the surface nicely.

well the penguin filter i just bought is a HOB so ill just have to make sure they dont mess each other up. keep the hornwort nice and trimmed

what if i added them at the same time? probably nothing still is my guess. i would just hate for something to happen to the fish. ive got some nice fish.

does the hornwort need high lighting bc all i have on there now is your standard light?

I have yet to keep plants in a oscar tank. It works while they are young but when they hit maturity they rip them up. Has to do with spawning and needing open area so no fish can hide in ambush. Even in a 220g- breeding pair-nothing else ever in the tank no plant should a chance. 23 years with oscars and 23 years with no plants. Real or fake.
