Cover for a Rose Queen

Hey every body. I just picked up a rose queen from the LFS 2 days ago and was wondering if anyone could help. He is in a 55 gallon aquarium and he keeps on digging. the other day he was digging and he made the rock collapse that I had stacked. I removed alot of tthe lace rock and there are now alot of open spaces. I was wondering what to use as cover that would be alot safer. I was thinking about using large PVC pipe for him to hide in becase he seems to like caves. Any ideas are very appreciated.

really? even with cichlids? i thought they needed to hide sometimes to be comfortable and have their own territory
 
usually what i do is leave a bare tank except for my substate and maybe a rock or two and the end result is the fish is more tame because there are less places to hide, and it feels more comfertable with its owners. im not sure how that works with all fish but sure worked for my cichlids

well, it depends on how you keep your fish.

if you feel that your fish should be kept in a more "natural" setting, then of course you would decorate your fish tank.

I prefer a bare tank to allow maximum swimming space, ease of tank maintenance, and embolden shy fishes.

i want to have a bare tank for my small JD because he's beautiful but i don't get to see him unless he's hungry, always hiding behind a clay pot

i don't want him to stay in the corner all the time without the pot, in your experience do cichlids get used to a bare tank like OhNoBarracuda's?
 
Could I use a plastic flower pot instead of a clay pot. I ask because I have a plastic pot avalible for use
