I asked this question in a thread in the saltwater question, but thought I might get a few more responses here. I recently converted my 220 to saltwater and I am currently running a fuval fx5 and eheim 2262 canister filter. My tank is not drilled and I would like to run a wet/dry. My options are drill it and possibly break it or try one of these:

The overflow design seems pretty cool as it incorporates a small pump that primes the over-flow and keeps it primed. This way unless the small airpump failed I wouldn't need to worry about flooding. So what do you guys/gals think?

Good choice if you've got the budget.

I'm an advocate of DIY whenever possible tho :D, I just enjoy it more.

I've setup one of those overflows, well the smaller version that flowed 350gph, it works well and I only used the vacum pump for the overflow to start the siphon, it's too loud to leave on 24/7, and if the siphon breaks all you have to do is plug it back in for a sec.

There are lots of plans for DIY PVC overflows if you look around, but they look like crap unless you paint them to blend in or hide them behind something. They work equally as well as the one's you buy in the store, for a fraction of the cost.

You could also build a sump for a f raction of the cost of the one you linked, you'd save at the very least 50%. And it's a fun learning experience.
