I am wondering how many gallons minimum would it take to keep a long horned cowfish? anyone knw. I have researched it said 50 long would be ok for 2.

I wouldnt do anything less than a 180 long term.
They can get around 18''

So a 180 for life. what other tank mates could it possibly have.

Is there any smaller species of cow fish that will take smaller tanks?

Personally, i wouldn't keep cowfish, or any other boxfish with anything else.
Mostly because if something picks on them, they can release a ton of toxin into the water and kill everything.

a thornback boxfish would work.
They only get around nine inches.

what size tank will they need?

Will a cowfish eat white shrimp? They are used as feed for other fish. What do you think?

Cowfish dont do well with other cowfish even the juvis fight with each other

as for tankmates docile fish only and preferably fish that are not speed demons either but fish that just dont sit on the bottom either because the cowfish might actually snack on a bottom sitting fish

the bigger the better cowfish need's tons of space to swim and feel comfortable take that away and they will stress and stop eating and well you get what's next
