Hi there ...I was at my local fish store and found a new shipment of pikes...
First of all they already had some Atabapo II...I took some photos of them
and they are your standard looking Atabapo II.(Tear drop, vertical stripes midway down the body, lateral line, and a silverish body)4 inches long & $49.99.

Now ..the problem is that the new shipment of five Atabapos.
They are also 3 to 4 inches long, have a slime tear drop, 3 to 4 very slime
vertical lines running half way down the body, no other spots or lateral line on entire body or tail. The red on the tail and fins is intense and the biggest difference is the golden/orangish body (DEF. not silver)
These cost $139.99 and the manager says they will turn comletly red.
I have seen photos of Rapps, Atabapo I from years back and these don't
look anything like them.
Could these be Tabapos I?
The four Lents that are in with them are stunning at four inches, they are labeled as spotted cobra..LOL, cost
$139.99 and are in the same tank from the same area.

The pic's are not that great..I hope you can magnify them.
Let me know what you think......Thanks

Just a quick shot of my tanks....

Every picture you have posted is of "Atabapo II"... there are no Tapajos pikes to be seen.

Its possible that they are a different variant of sp. 'atabapo II', but they are definitely sp. 'atabapo II'.

I'm not really seeing much difference between them though except maybe size. Perhaps they are maturing faster and showing slightly different coloration. I know mine looked different at 4" than they did at 5".

Awesome tank btw! Going to put some pikes in there I hope if there aren't some already.

I also think they are the same species but I never seen pic's of them with
this color....I am strongly thinking they could be a different variety like you said. Also the manager says they are def. a different species and the
shippers charge accordingly. (thus they cost $139.99 not 49.99).
I want to buy them but not for that price if they are indeed Arabapo II.

They are on hold for me until friday (I'll get the lents, for sure).
I have to go pick up a few thinks at that store today and will try to
get some better pic's. Also of the Lents.

Regarding the tank....Thanks...... It took me over three years and now they
are full of water and cycling.......FINALLY.....these pikes will be my first fish
and will go into my quarantine tanks untill the big ones are cycled.
I was never into pikes untill I started reading the pike forums on MFK's
and now I can't get enough of them....addicting for sure!!!!!

I'll post more pic's later.....Cheers..

On a side note, if you did still want to get these guys you can check most weekends at the store and our cichlids are on sale for 20% off. You just have to mention it if you're picking these up since most people don't know that pikes/rams/discus are cichlids so we don't label them as on sale. Consider it an inside tip from someone that works where you picked up your lents. See you later Ivan.

For inspiration. In acclamation chamber.
