Was looking at my tank last night and saw that i have a hitch hiking crab, its a little smaller than a quarter and has white spots as it looks on arms. I know that's not a lot to go on but ill try and get a picture of it (although everytime i'd shine the moonlight on it it'd crawl back into a hole). I'll try to find a pic on google or something to give a better idea.

This isnt the crab that i saw at night i found this little bugger eating my pink birds nest coral >=[

looks like;
Cymo andreossyi : Very common and is considered a coral symbiont, with the caveat that such symbiosis are a trade off between the coral and the crab, the coral gains protection and house cleaning services while giving up a few polyps, mucus and captured/settled food particles in exhange for those services. A healthy coral should have no problem repairing or replacing lost polyps, but again, in an aquarium environment, an eye should be kept on the coral for excessive damage being done due to the coral being unable to recover as fast or faster than the damage being done by the crab. In short, its a judgement call that you will have to make.

he was eating the polyps off of the pink birds nest coral more than just a few polyps here and there, almost took down a whole small branch. hopefully i can snag pics of the other crab that i havnt seen in awhile doesnt seem to be doing anything just comes out at night.

Ya, even if he is a "symbiot" crab they can still do some damage to smaller corals if they are hungry enough.

I had one of these run out of my LR about 4 months ago...havent seen him since.

This was during the harlequin tusk period though, so he probably went the way of the Dodo. Hope your crab problem gets resolved soon.

One of the 2 big crabs in the tank that were hitchers died, doesnt look like anything on Chucks Addiction :S i caught the other one, its a Xanthid crab here are some pics

Dont know how to go about "disposing" him, so i was wondering if i could just throw him in the sump? dont have alot of stacked live rock, mostly just big chunks here and there so dont have to worry about anything collapsing.
