I bought a regular FW crab and some regular live plants and one day i noticed that the crab had cut a 2" piece off the end and was eating it.That normal?

A majority inverts will consume both animal and vegetable matter. Especially, crabs, crayfish and shrimp since the majority of them fall under "scavengers" and "omnivores". Depending on the species, you may see that occur more or less frequently depending on specific dietary needs.

And EWO's observation is another characteristic of some inverts. The chopping/mowing down behavior is often done because the then decaying plant pieces collect organisms they like to ingest. ...and sometimes, it's just because crays and crabs are annoying and like to be destructive to our plants (i.e. my Tiger cray loooooooooves to uproot and rearrange my plants) lol
