Hi....I have built a DIy wet/dry filter out of a plastic 3-drawer set(TARGET).......The sump is a 55g plastic storage container.......Get the idea.........lol........It works fine for my 125g........The top drawer is where the water first enters.......There is filter floss in there........I was thinking of putting some freshwater crabs in there to eat some of the debris that falls in........Anyone try this?????????

i say any crab is a good crab as long as its not in your pants....

on a more serious note, would the crabs be in the top drawer or something where the debris would be getting caught by a filter pad or something? my concern would be that they would eat the filter pad or atleast tear it apart. if thats not the case and the crabes are doen in the tub then how is the debris gunna get there? i think its a good idea in theory but not sure how well it would work. i think shrimps or prawns might work better but idk

awesome! i'm the first MFK voter! Too bad i don't have a saltwater tank though!

its not saltwater its fresh

very interesting... i would think shrimps would work better, but they need full water

i would wonder how well the crabs would handle the torrential water flow assaulting them from the intake. mine is 1200gph and i doubt a crab would like that hitting it in the face.

Ive seen posts where people have found Fire Shrimp and Ghost shrimp in their FX5s and their Eheims. So I'd go with shrimp before crabs.

I currently own a 8g NANo with a Fiddler crab.......Looking at how my crab eats about anything I throw at him, made me think about dun, ping some crabs inside the top drawer of the wet/dry......

Congrats on first vote.....But yeah, my tank is freshwater.......I only do freshwater tankbusters, maybe the occasional NANO clownfish.....Thanks

I plan on going through with the crab thing.....A colony of about 5 Fiddlers, maybe somethng a little bigger......They would be living off the stuff falling on the filter floss(really a pad).......Thanks for the replies.....I will get pictures once I go through with it......

sounds good, deff let us know how it works
