I installed a Single Satellite Compact Fluorescent Fixture by Current USA about a week ago and now discovered a 20 inch crack running on the top panel of my acrylic TruVu 125 gallon tank (72"x18x20).

Any advice on what steps to take now? Does this crack sound easily repairable?

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Perhaps a piece of acrylic bonded to the top or bottom?

perhaps "butt" glue it with the appropriate acrylic cement

Like RBE17 said drill a hole at the end on the crack, be sure there is no cracking past the hole. I would then glue the crack with the correct acrylic glue. Loosen the clamps a little to open the crack and apply some thin acrylic glue to the crack. The glue will need to sit in the crack until the plexi softens a little then in can be clamped together. I done a repair almost exactly like this its still holding after 6 years.

I would get a rectangular piece of 1/8" thick acrylic which covers most of the crack. Also, get some methylene chloride or whatever TAP Plastic is selling to fuse acrylic. You will also need to purchase one of those plastic bottles with a needle to apply the solvent. Lay the piece on top of the crack and carefully apply the solvent around the perimeter of the patch. Apply enough solvent so that the entire surface area between the patch and the tank top is filled. Let is dry.
