Crack in 55gal bottom trim

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
how big is your tank? that will tell you how many pounds of pressure you have going towards your crack..also hard to see in the pic but is the glass slightly damaged above the black trim as well..all in all if its 55+ I wouldn't chance it:(

Glass does look shattered a little in the bottom corner.

So I just noticed this crack in the trim/frame whatever it is.

Is my tank going to bust open? Or is it just cosmetic?

Oops I meant to say that I saw it about a month ago.

Might be worth mentioning that the tank is by a window that gets a good amount of sun. Do you think it cracked because it is in the sun?

If its just the trim it should be fine for right now because the trim is like a brace that holds the tank together and silicone is what makes it leak proof. I myself would replace the trim or entire tank i personally am always extra cautious. I would think that eventually the tank would leak do to the extra stress on the silicone since the brace is not holding the glass together as well as it should anymore
