so I finally broke down and bought some black foam to give my 90g tank a background. Easy to size and install....but upon installation I notice something that looks like a crack, check it out as best as I can and as far as I can tell it’s on the outside....pretty sure I bought the tank with this mark on it just didn’t notice as I didn’t have a bkg for the tank.

Now I’m worried that it will extend and cause me to have a tank fail...what do you think? Surface enough not to worry or too deep and would get new tank? What would you do?

Pic attached (yes I know there’s algae on the glass, I don’t clean it off the back wall, but did clean the cracked area)

I have several tanks with scratches like that. I just keep an eye on them. if they grow then its time to replace.

First thing to do is to determine if it is on the outside, inside or all the way through the glass. Use your fingernail to feel it. If it is all the way through I would replace it. If it's a scratch on the outside they make an adhesive filler that can be applied that will keep it from spreading. Many auto parts stores sell it to be used on cracked windshields. I have also heard of a process where the crack or scratch can be filled with a similar material but when done you can hardly tell there was ever a defect in the glass. I would call a place that does windshield repair and I am sure they can tell you if it would work for you.

That’s not a bad idea!

I’ve started looking for a new tank and will most likely purchase one in March/April. It bothers me so much that I don’t think I even care to try and fix it.

I was looking at a new tank and stand at petsmart...125g for $899...seems to be a decent price seeing is how used tanks sell pretty high in my area.
