How many of you guys have came across this disasterous kind of situation.

I can recall a 30g breeder that was loaded with african cichlids that split on me many, many years ago. None survived, it happened sometime in the middle of the night when I was at work.

Another was a 55g. that split right after I filled it. No fish were in it yet so it wasn't a huge loss. I tried to reseal that tank and it split again as soon as it was filled the next time, so I decided the resealing thing wasn't for me...

Another was a 40g tall that got a slow leak and when I woke up was able to save all my fish, so that was a close call.

Another was a ten gallon that I tried to move in a hurry, water fish and all :nilly: I might of taken some water out, cant remember. Needless to say it cracked and I had to replace that one also, no fish loss though.

There might be more if I really think about it, but that's all I can recall right now. With the exception of the ten gallon all the other splits came from the tank not being perfectly level..... Needless to say I level all my tank's very carefully now before I add water.

i agree with dream--Liz's loss what just heartbreaking and made me tear up.. there have been a few other big tanks on here that have busted and destroyed floors, walls, etc.

This thread is making me sad already ;(.

I havnt't had a tank break on me yet (that was set up propperly) however I have come close, when I was cleaning a 15G tank, I filled it up in the a sink and let it sit with water overnight. When I came back the next morning, it had broke all the way down a seam, so lucky that I didn't have anything in it.

about 4 years ago i woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of rain on a tin roof. I was half asleep and it took a while for me to wake up and figure out it was a bad thing. i turned the light on and saw that the 30g had cracked along the bottom from corner to corner and was draining out onto a plastic bag. i cought enough water and the fish in a bucket to save them until the LFS opened that morning. Bad thing was the downstairs ceiling had to be redone

Well I personaly have not had tanks crack on me but my friend had a 150g that was 32" tall and .5" thick glass, he had a maintenance guy come and clean his tank and he would always lean on the front panel because he was short he didn't think much of it until he came home from work to a wet carpet and the front panel blown off, his (at the time) 15" clown knife was cold and still on the carpet while the rest of the fish where dead, he picked him up thinking it was dead then it started opening and closing its mouth, he put it in a rubber maid with some tank water from his 90g it survived and is now 28".

That story is not over...to replace the broken 150g glass, he got a 180g glass, after a long time the bottom cracks and was leaking during the night luckily he heard it and drained it and back to the rubbermaid for the now 28" Clown knife who put up a fight against him moving him. The 180g is now mine i patched it up with some glass and it has been filled for almost a year now. He got a 200 custom acrylic to replace it, no more glass for him lol

I had a 55 gal blow a rear seal. It was leaking slowly (about 5 gal/week), but for about 2-3 weeks I was wondering why the floor in front of the tank was always a bit damp. I managed to get the tank broken down, and all of my cichlids moved into a 30gal (they're still under 3").

I decided I wanted to try to re-seal the tank, but in the process of moving it outside to clean it I managed to chip a corner that caused the rear panel to completely crack in half.

I'm in the process of re-building it into a w/d filter for my newly aquired 180.

Just this weekend I cracked a full ten gallon with my head.

if only we could be as talented as you ewurm lol

i havnt had one crack yet but i aw somewhere that an uneven tank will crack? because my 55 gal is a little uneven. is it bad or not?
