My 135 Gallon cracked last night and I'm wondering if it's possible to repair. The crack is on the back panel near the left end of the tank. The crack runs from the top to the bottom of the tank in an "S" shape. The tank is currently about 25% full, the leak has slowed significantly. I have two questions, can the tank be repaired with silicone or a patch or a combination of both? Secondly, if I can't use that method, how feasible is is it to take the back glass panel off and replace it with a new panel from a glass shop???? This is one of my favorite tanks, just trying to save it. Any advise would be appreciated.

Tough situation. Don't try to patch. Either new back pannel by someone who knows what they r doing or new tank. Check CL. Good luck.

Id say buy a used replacement bro. After spending the money to replace the back panel, which is probably the most expensive piece of glass on the tank, you might be spending close to what you would just buying a used replacement. Not considering the cost of having a shop fix it for you. If you do it your self, you may consider the process. If its glass then you will have that plastic molding around the bottom, assuming its not rimless. If you break that plastic molding trying to get it off, its kind of hard to get it replaced.

Its just allot of hassle.. might be worth it to just replace it. Good luck with what ever you decide to do. Tough break man, I feel for ya.

it is extremely feasible if you really like that tank and dont mind a little work. That panel will run you around $150 for 3/8"-1/2" glass though. I am certain you could find a used 135 for that price. I just reassembled a tank and used 2 x 1/4" sheets siliconed together for the back glass. Not a perfect plan but its holding and was free.

Thanks for all the advise guys, it's much appreciated. Already lost my 11.5" Melanurus to this situation, not happy about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
