Well, Ive been absent for a little while guys and have had tank issues since i got kicked out of my dads house but now I have my 40 gallon back with my one crappie and I have a question for you guys. Im would really like to put more crappie in my tank but I probably wont be able to get any more until next summer and was wondering what you guys think about putting a couple small bass and bluegill in it? Ive been told the crappie will get picked on but I wanted to see what you guys think.

Well if you don't plan on anything bigger than I wouldn't reccomend bass or bluegill. Actually I wouldn't reccomend anything else if you don't plan on upgrading....maybe some creek chubs or something but they will probably get eaten anyways. Crappie get BIG. But if you ever want to get rid of it man send it my way crappie are sweet! I could send you a couple green sunfish for it!

Ya i know crappie get big. Ive caught some big crappie. The crappie i have right now is probably like 4 inches so its not that big and when it gets bigger I plan on getting rid of it. Where I live I dont have a lot of chubs and stuff. Here in southern california most of are fish are just like bluegill, crappie, bass, and catfish along with some other sunfish. Some lakes have some freshwater sculpin and stuff. Hell, most of are lakes are man made and they all just seem to have those four fish in them. We do have a couple others but most lakes around me just have those four. The bass and bluegill ive been looking at putting in the tank are really small, about two inches long or so. I have a pond by me with tons of them and thought with their size they may not be as aggressive.

Any bass you put in a 40 will last a few months, until you need a 55. Then if you don't stuff it with food, you will need to upgrade again within a year, sooner if you are liberal with food.

well, i picked up a couple tiny bluegill for my tank just to see how they would do with my crappie and they are all doing great togeather. today is the first full day with the bluegill and they are eating pieces of meal worms.
