Crawfish Molted

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
do you have a pic? usually they just come out of the old shell and get bigger... perhaps someone grabbed his pinchers when he was still soft? If he did lose them, don't worry, he'll have them again at the next molt...
what's in the tank with him?
oh, and don't quote me, I'm no pro, just assumptions on my part.

Pinchers fell offf????? sumthing happened, there supposed to just be soft.. but they should be there...weird

Sounds like it got attacked when it was soft. The pinchers should be intact.

how long does it take to moult? i dont know if mine is being successful. been taking over 24 hours and looks like a mess, most of his front is off but i dont see the top of its head. first time doing this so ill see.

mine molted over night claws intact hardend up in a few days. he sounds hurt but they regen so don't worry to much try p.v.c only he can fit into!

I don't know the average time for a crayfish to molt but ive watch mine molt before and it only took about a minute. I also had a crayfish lose its arms after a molt, the arms grow back very dinky looking at first but after 2 or 3 molt the arms come back in full size.

now its not moving at all. is that very common to die while moulting? looks like some of its organs are in the "new" body and the some are still attached to the "old" body. dont really know how to describe it other than to say that it looks really messed up. its alone in the tank. RIP krusty

its organs stay in tact. mine usaly stay in the tank for 3-4 molts and then get eaten out, Once they atart molting the isfh find them flip them and pig out. I have tones of hiding places and every now and then i find a shell floating or laying in the sand. i have seen them molt 3 times(out of 10 shells found), one tood 2-3 houres and the other two took minuits. Its always sad to lose a fish or crustation when you dont expect it and worse to find it in that state...

Sorry for your loss...
