Has anyone used cray fish as food for African cichlids? It seems like it would be a good source of nutrition seeing as how its in the family tree (sort of ) with shrimp.

Any Thoughts?

Depends on the species of African cichlid but I'm sure they would love it. I had electric yellows that would smash glass shrimp. But they are tiny

crayfish start out about as small as glass shrimp, so most fish can handle them, and with the thick shell i would guess they have a lot of calcium. and with the abundance of meat inside them i would imagine they are extremely nutritious

I fed them to my natives last summer but that's what they eat in the wild so makes sense

I haven't seen any available that are small enough for most Africans to be able to eat.

ive fed em to lots of fish, never had africans so havent tried with them. one warning with crays, if they arent eaten quickly they will destroy any live plants super quickly

Wow I am new to this site and I can't believe how helpful you guys have been!

I special ordered Marmorkrebs crayfish so I would be feeding my fish the babies of those, which should be very small, so the crayfish size should not be an issue.[h=1][/h]
