Crayfish and medium sized cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey y'all. I was wondering if I can keep Crayfish with cichlids that are 4 inches-6 inches in size (such as yellow labs, firemouths, jewels etc.)? Anybody have any experiences or ideas?
My mbunas around that size destroyed a large crayfish the second it molted.

This cichlid ate this shrimp, about 5 minutes after the shot was taken.
Photos taken just before disaster......

But in all seriousness, I think the crayfish very well might go after those cichlids if they let their guard down at night or I think those cichlids would eat/pick apart the crayfish once it molted. I have kept crayfish with fish (mostly native fish), but I knew the crayfish would likely end up being eaten and was ok with it.

so Crayfish and cichlids = chaos
Almost always. I keep one with my rainbow, sev, and kribs, as the only one large enough to pose a threat (sev) is a vegetarian/one of the most peaceful fish I’ve ever owned.
When I kept one with my CA/SAs, the cichlids were juvies, so they didn’t do much damage, but were clearly interested. The banded leporinus did it in though.
