had my two red crayfish in my fish tank with my other fish. one oscar, one blue african cichild, and 2 plecos. i was cleaning the gravel today and decided to take them out because everytime my oscar gets scared of the filter and slams himself into the big crayfish's corner the crayfish freaks out and tries to rip up the oscars fins so when i was taking them out the one that always hides in a log i have and noticed it had a big bad of eggs under its tail, so i went to walmart bought a clear plastic bin put in the 40 gallon filter i had in an old tank put gravel a log and plastic plants so they wouldnt get eaten and filled it up with water and declorinated and conditioned it for a day and a half, about 20 gallons, and my question is should i keep the male cray in there as well, or just leave the female, or will both try and eat the offspring so take the male out now and the female out as soon as the babies hatch? i know the babies will try to eat each other either way im just trying to get an outside opinion

My crayfish hasn't ever had eggs before, but this is what I would do. Buy more bins, use as many as you can, and do a 25 percent water change every day. In a pinch, that'd be what I would do. I really am unsure of what to do with the male and female, i'll try and get some research done.

After you figure out what to do with the Crayfish eggs/babies I would find a new home for them the Oscar will eventually grow large enough to have them for lunch.

Your fish will clear out the babies, even if small. I would recommend separating the female from everything else. Like others have said, partial water changes, and vegetation is great for hiding in, water quality, and munching on.

Both the male and female will try to eat the offspring. The female needs to be by herself right now until the eggs hatch. When the eggs have hatched and you can see the little baby crayfish eyes, go ahead and softly move them off the mother's tail into their own grow out tank. Put the mother back in your community tank or whatever, but don't let the babies be in the tank with the fish or their parents. They will get eaten no doubt about it.
