hi there, just wondering: my outdoor ponds have loads of manky algae in them... horrible stuff.... so would a couple of freshwater crayfish will sort this problem out? also could they survive in there? thanks for any help.

I have used small crayfish in several ponds, they don't do much for algae and often get eaten by the fish unless there are lots of places to hide.

I dont think crayfish eat much algae, but they would make great scavengers as long as they are big enough to not get eaten!

Excellent scavengers, Easily obtained ( need a license in England !!) multiply quick ,only need introducing once and make a great catch crop for the Barbecue. If it wasn't illegal i'd have stocked some local ponds !!

I agree, if they start to overpopulate make crayfish salad, yummm!

if you have algea get a poleco or two...or 12. they really clean up the algae in ponds! plus can bare a wide variety of water temps. and fluctuations...give it a try. also snails help, then when the snails get over populated get a few redear sunfish.
