whats the smallest size tank a pair of crayfish can go in? i have a pretty big tank with a jag, jd, some giant danios, peacock eel, and zebra cichlid would a crayfish live ok in there?:popcorn:

Depends on the type of cray you want... but with all those predators in there, i doubt a cray would last long... especially when it molts...

a local pet shop has cray's and i have no idea what kind, they are pretty cheap so i'm guessing a very common type. i have a 15g long lying around would that work

As long as he has a rock or cave of his own should be fine but the Eel might try to take a leg off. Ive tried to keep some Blue Crays but have not had much luck. I think the due better in colder water like 70

Two should be fine in a 15g.. as long as there are many hiding areas.. they are really messy so you have to be on top of vacuuming the gravel.. .they are truly facinating to watch, you'll really enjoy them..

If it's a common species, even local, ,the 15g would be fine. Just provide a lot of hiding spaces and cover. Without knowing what species, they may be highly territorial and/or aggressive and smaller tanks can be a problem. Should be okay though, just keep them well fed and your water clean.

Do you want them as pets or as breeders for feeders? I have a marmokreb (self-cloning crayfish) in a 10-gallon along with a lot of her offspring. The warmer you keep them the faster they grow.

One problem with crayfish is they'll sneak up on sleeping fish and eat their fins off. I thought my betta fry were doing it to each other, being bettas and all, but when I removed the crayfish I put in there as a tiny baby (because it was getting too big and starting to chase the fish) it all stopped and the fins healed. I threw that one in with my Jack Dempseys and later all that was to be found was one claw. It was over 2" at the time, so they can tackle pretty big crayfish, and my Jack Dempsey is only around 4".
