ok so my crayfish i had for like 4 months...molted again....he turned from ref to blue....

and then today he kept turning himself on his back... like he is trying to die.

all my parameters are where they need to be. he was in a tank with piranhas..so after him doin this i moved him to my other tank fearing the piranhas would finally kill him. up till now they havent messed with him (yea i kn ow eventually) so i moved him from that 90 gallon to my 29 gallon that has another crayfish..but yet he still makes himself go on his back as in like he is giving up on life... wtf is goin on

well he died over night..

he ate...

silversides. blood worms. krill. shrimp, fish fillets, algae wafers. beef heart. flake food.

Could be territorial issues. Could be a sudden change in water - medicines, leeched chemicals in the filters, bacterial differences/imbalances... maybe the other cray was carrying a disease or parasite the other one couldn't tolerate?

I know that any cray used to 90 gallons would bug out if suddenly stuffed into a 30 gallon (or less)... He probably tried to find a way out before he "gave up".

It's very difficult to keep mutliple full sized crays in one tank for too long.

I had the same thing happen to one of my crayfish. Couldnt figure what was making him do that. Let me know if you find out what was the issue.

lol i didnt change him from a 90 to a 30.....he acted this way in the 90 gallon. so instead of my piranhas eating him...i put him in the 30. he was already doing this prior to his move. he was only in the 30 for 3 hours

I thought I remmber reading on this forum before I joined that...
If some Crayfish come out of water they take air and need to be "burped?" Maybe that's it?
Idk not all secies because native species used as bait can be kept alive for days with damp seaweed...if taking air was soooo fatal to some species than that wouldn't be possible. Maybe he came out of the water and took air?
BTW sorry to hear about the Craw.
