i was wondering if i could put a crayfish i found while fishing today in my tank of cichlids. i have an oscar jd ornate bichir and another smaller O. I think the crayfish is cool, but am wondering if it would have any sorts of parasites? It was in small cove off of the huge resevoir i live near.. What do you all think

They may have parasites, adding any fish wild or store bought may have parasites on it. The other thing you have to worry about depending on the size of your crayfish is the is the oscars trying to eat them.

+1 on the Oscar wanting to eat.. I imagine the JD would take a shot at it too.. especially if it happens to molt.. they will for sure have themselves a happy little snack..

another thing I'm not sure of, is how fast bichirs are.. the cray might take a snap at it considering they hang out at the bottom of the tank too..

I agree with above, anything that lays on the bottom and is on the smaller side might get attacked by the crayfish

the bichir is 13" lol im not worried of that, the jd did attack it a little bit, but the crawdad has found a hiding place under my driftwood.. i think it will be finee as long as i keep my fish fedd, thank you all!

What kind of magical quarantine medicine do you have that can kill all wild parasites and other infectious agents in a matter of hours?

My EBJD jones's for crayfish. I mean way beyond likes eating them, TOTALLY freaks out over the treat. All of my cichlids seem to immensely value live crayfish as a food source.

i bought an asian blue lobster. looks exactly like our northamerican crawdad or crayfish. put him in my 125gallon mixed cichlid tank . craddad started missing limbs took him out put him in my 55gl and he attacked a small pleco so I tossed him back in the big tank. still thriving today and i have had him in there while molting long as he has a hide out no worries.excellent cleaners though
