I live off of the Rollins Savanna in Lake County Illinois, and I know for a fact, That I can trap some damn nice crays for my Monsters. (When I was a kid, cray hunting was a full time hobby, just could'nt figure out why all of the crays I harvested were dissapearing? and all of the Racoons were so fat and lazy! I was opening up a Sushi Bar for them! The Racs Loved me!)

Here is the question, are there any legal Ramifications? and if there are not is it kosher for my Cichlids?? I have a RedD, a Jag, a JD, a Tex, some Cons, and soon hopfully a grammode, cuban, and a Feste/Uro.

They are fed well, Mysis, Krill, Sticks, Blood Worms, Brine, some live (Con Fry-Never any store bought feeders!) so its not a have to have, just looking for some variety, and give myself something to do, when the ice clears!!

Ideas??

Fed my bass a couple crays two days ago.

Dunno about legal remifications but would assume that unless you are dealing with protected species, same rules apply as to fishing. As for crays being "halal"... They should quite "kosher" providing that no chemical spills are present in the area

well i know that you can't fish with them any more but rusy crayfish are being treated as a pest in minnesota right now but if there takin from clean water thay should be fine if you are not sure about the water let them sit in freshwater and change it daily to clean them out

Water here is excellent! It is a perserve, I live off the N.E. Corner, go fishing for Largies right off my neighbors back yard. I will keep you guy up to date as the Ice Melts!

I Just hope DNR doesn't catch me!

well fr thee part where they are disappearing is because there is an aliean crayfish in the waters competeing for food i think it is called a rusty! not cuz of coons!

but yea you may not want to feed wild caught ones cuz of parasites and whatever diseases too! so just buy some for feeders everyon else does!
here is a thread where we were talkin bout this stuff!

Small crays for all the boys! Drop in 10 at a time and make it fair with lots of rocks to crawl under:) eventualy they get caught. Also they will clean up the bottom in my experience.

Get some string and bacon they LOVE the stuff....just tie it let it chill in the water and watch them keep comming....They will sometimes hang out of the water for the bacon......I would use a strainer to put behind or under the crayfish and then....into the bucket it goe's....I would then put them in a quarintine tank to clean them out and gut load them with goodies.
