so heres the deal- my mom has a little 15 gallon tank and she had a good variety of tetras and abuncha little crap like that. they started to develop a fungus that like like a solid white mass that starts growing from the side of their body. all the fish died but 2 choclate gouramies. i decided to use the tank to put a couple of baby bichirs in but within a day they developed the same thing. they were moved and are fine now. i let the tank sit for a week and i added salt and ich medication. my mom had to have a baby discus so we put him in and within and within an hour there was the fungus! i moved him to a 10 with my leaf fish and bichir.
what should i do? im thinkin about taking all the water out and starting from scratch. never heard of fungus developing that quick

every things back to normal

I would not trust the tank, that fungus is a killer and may still be dormant in the tank, I would drain and bleach it before reuse.

messiner, I think I have some good news for you. The good news is, this is not fungus. Fungi are slow growing. Usually slow dying also. What you have is a Columnaris bacterial problem in the tank. Usually healthy fish are not bothered by this kind of thing. If your fish are all healthy, I suspect you have a very high concentration of the bacteria. Or, a water problem. If the water is ok, then you might need to clean the tank. Do this to remove food source, and reduce the numbers. http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disease/p/columnaris.htm

that has to be it! fish are healthy but the water was way acid. drained the tank and fidded it up with fresh water. ph and amonia are perfecto. 0 nitrates also. im putting one poly in overnight before the rest of the gang goes back in. hope it goes well!
