has anyone here had any luck with keeping arowanna with rtc's? my little rtc ate his second arrowana last night and i woke in a frustrated rage to a fat rtc lookin at me. i thought the fact that the aro was 2times longer than the cat would detour any behavior like this. is it possible to keep these two beautiful fish together?

possible yes... whats your tank size???

trade in your RTC for a smaller one, this should work out good for the RTC and the aro for about 2.3 seconds...until the RTC outgrows it...and eats it

Umm I don't think 3rd time is gonna be the charm, sorry.:(

How big of tank is it in? How big is the RTC? How big have each of the two deceased Arowanas been? Just some questions that might help you out if they're answered but I feel most will say you're better off taking the RTC back if you want an Arowana more or to keep the RTC and find a different tankmate.

you need a very large tank, and a very large arowana. the bigger the better. full grown is best. and start with a nice small rtc. i have a 2ft+ silver and a 20"+ silver with my rtc but the rtc is only about 10"

Possible.......I doubt it. Years ago i had a 16" RTC eat a 24" aro i had for about 3 years :irked:

I feel your pain but those RTC's eventually eat everyone.......Even themselves

Its just a matter of time.

Thanks BOB, but go to the BOSTON Aquarium sometime.. they have a section that is amazon based.. and they have roughly a 4 ft aro, and a 4 ft rtc... IT CAN WORK if given enough room.

RTC will usually eat anything they can get in their mouths, even if the rest of the fish sticks out! My rtc 24" is in with a 25" PACU, 24" P.Niger Cat & 24" L. Pictus cat and that it, I have lost TOOOOOO many fish to rtc's over the years.

aquataholic is exactly right. it can be done but just needs a ton of room.

But they have to catch it first :D Big tank would work.......But how big is BIG enough.

Then again I have a 10" RTC with a 2" red tail shark and their buddies :screwy:

You never know until you try, all fish are different.

Who was in the tank first the rtc or the aro, i have kept these two in the same tank and they did fine, until i removed the rtc and put him back my aro tore him a new one, then the aro went to baltimore aquarium where he lives with a larger rtc than the one i had. the aro is around 4 to 5 feet rtc about 3 feet.
