I have a Labidochromis sp yellow fin mbama that tries to swim up the output hose of my FX5.

Should I put a screen on it, or is it just playing in the current??

I would say it likes the current. The few malawians I have left live to try and swim on the outputs of my canisters. I also think the water is a bit more oxygenated in the current so that would explain some of it as well.

If its just swimming up and down and back and forth in the currunt outside the tube then leave it as is, its normal. If the fish is attempting to go into the tube then you should put a bit screen (a knee high panty hose might work, i use them on intake tubes when i have tiny fry) over the end till the fish is too big to fit inside. Dont want it to get stuck and clog the tube making a mess in the house etc... I would be more concerned if it was trying to get into a inake tube...

It is trying to go in the tube. Although it is to big to fit, others have started to try aswell. I guess I will be raiding the wifes drawers for hose. I hope I don't get caught, as I am sure she will be less then happy about it
