I have an opportunity to pick up 2 240 gal glass tanks for a song. These are not ordinary tanks either. They were in a commercial display at a McDonalds, so needed to be stout enough for little kids to beat on them. Listen to these specs. 2" thick bottoms, 3/4" sides. 1 1/2" tops. Here is my crazy idea: Cut them apart. Take the 2 bottoms and silicone them together on plywood. Cut 2 of the sides down to 4" and assemble. Now I have a 6X4 ft tank that weighs 1000 lbs. The tops I think would be useless as support, so I would have to design something for top support. Do you guys think the 2 piece siliconed bottom would work if it is attached to plywood? If they would theoretically hold, any suggestions for top bracing?
