Hey guys, I'm working on an arowana tank and I wanted to see if anyone else is as crazy as I apparently am. It's a 210 gallon, 7 foot tank. It'll will be moderately planted with anubias, java fern and some other low light/maintenance plants. Driftwood and a sand substrate. The crazy part is my stock list:

1 silver arowana (currently 4")
6-8 koi angels (currently half dollar size)
3-4 geophagus surinamensis (currently 4-5")
1 viaje synspillum or 2-3 blood parrots
1 senegal bichir (currently 7")
1 delhezi bichir currently 7")

and possibly some clown loaches, catfish, and a fire eel.

I know that many of you will shriek in horror at this, but I've already heard it and I'm going to try it anyway. The people I want to hear from are those of you who have kept aro's and angels / geophagus together. Any advice on keeping everyone happy and safe? Anyone have suggestions on catfish that get between 12"-24"?
Thanks!
J.

the angels are the odd ones out. the aro will out grow and eat them too. I wouldn't include them. I would add a few more small species of bichirs and a tigrinus catfish.

I'm hoping that a well fed aro will ignore the angels.. I've seen it work, but I'm sure it's all about the individual aro. Mine is really timid at the moment, so hopefully he'll stay peaceful. He won't even eat the guppies. The bichirs got them all.

hi aroatx.. before you try a community.. silvers are best kept alone till they are about 10" to 12".. they are usually pretty timid at this stage and can be easily bullied by other fish.. and to hit this size wont take too long.. so you could prob start once the aro is at this size.. cheers

Arowana is still a little small to be with tank mates.

Doubt the aro will ever eat any of the angelfish, possibly could kill them though. I had 9 various angels with my arowana a couple were killed, but not eaten.

You did not mention it but the arowana will eventually out grow that 210g tank.

Also arowana jump make sure your tank top is completely sealed and secured.

I think if you're going to try it you'll want to start off with near-full grown angels. Other than that there's nothing crazy or unusual about the stocking, silvers and large cichlids like Geophagus and Vieja make great aro tankmates, as do large enough clown loaches and bichirs. TBH I'd be more worried about the Vieja with the angels than the aro.
