I live in a split level house, meaning my living room is 36" below my kitchen. I have an 8' banister seperating the 2 rooms, and I am planning on replacing it with an 7' 325 Gallon Aquarium. From the living room, the bottom of the tank will be 40" and the top 70". From the kitchen, the bottom will 6" from the floor and the top 36". The trick lies in the stand is only 18" deep while the tank is 30". The platform will extend over the kitchen floor 12". All of this is determined by columns that exist and are 30" wide. The tank will be between them. This leaves very little room for a sump underneath. So here is my CRAZY IDEA...
If I built a torsion box too for my stand, made it beefy with 2x6 framing, and full support back and sides. Do you think I could get away with no center support in the front?
