(this is a copy of a reddit post I made apologies for the strange wording)

So, there is this species of catfish, the redtailed catfish, and this smaller species of catfish called the synodontis petricola. I am wondering if they are possible to be bred? The red-tail has been bred with the Paroon shark which is another catfish that diverges in the same spot of the scientific naming shceme. Apoligies if this is a dumb question, i haven't yet studied bioligy at school and all my info is from wikipedia.

Siluriformes Pimelodidae Phractocephalus hemioliopterus (red tailed catfish)
Siluriformes Pangasiidae Pangasius sanitwongsei ( paroon shark)
Siluriformes Mochokidae Synodontis petricola (petricola catfish)

A redtail catfish becomes mature at around 60cm. There is no way to breed Synodontis petricola and a Redtail because the redtail will eat the Synodontis.
i thought about that was was planning on doing what some commerial breeders do and extract the reproductive cells and mix them manually

I think this is biologically impossible since RTCs are so big that they would eat anything smaller than you tried to breed with. It would take years of research and experiments to come remotely close to your suggestion.

Basically going against the laws of nature by creating hybrids which are manmade. No species should breed with another entirely different species naturally, this just creates a genetically mutated fish which may have a shorter lifespan, mutated body parts etc. it should just be one purebred species.
In the wild, you would never see a redtail x paroon shark hybrid.
