Okay, would like to redecorate some of my tanks (mainly my 55 and my 47 gal). Any creative input from you guys would be great. I'm sure there's lots of things that can be used that most don't think of that would be inexpensive. If anyone has anything crazy please post pics so I can check it out!!!!! Thanks! :)

Howdy,

I always get inpired by going to a local creek and checking it out ... cool rocks, drift wood, plants. IMO, it doesn't get any better.

I always thought that gathering things from streams or lakes were not safe because of bacteria. Is it okay to put driftwood that you find this way in a tank?

All of the driftwood I use is from a local lake. Just make sure you soak it and that its been "Cured" by the sun first.

That is great! Especially considering how much it costs at the lfs..... More $ to buy another tank...... :) No worries about mold or bacteria?! Guess I've been paranoid for nothing......

check out my gallery....I think every tank i have setup except for my 20 has "wild" driftwood.

Most of my favorite rock pieces are from farms around here. Just make sure you don't get limestone or something similar unless you really want to boost tank pH. I just boil them and let dry.

I have taken some dead branches from trees and I aint got any problem with that. And some rocks from a beach not too far from here. I did just scrub it some.

Live 5 mins from Lake Erie so I may have to go rock collecting..... Unfortunately not the time of the year for that!!! Think I'll do it anyways.....
