I tried putting lents in with altifrons many years ago and it did not end well....

Just ordered 4 red atabapos at 6-7". I currently have 4 Geo sp RH Tapajos at 4-5".

I hear the atabapos aren't as nasty as lents so I'm thinking of trying it. It's a standard 180 with 6 Metynnis schomburki, a Leporinus and a couple other odds and ends.

Anyone tried a similar mix and what was the result? My assumption is that it will be fine at their size currently, but the concern I have is when the pikes are 10+".

Depends on the fish if they pair out then you might have a problem. Most cichlids that hold there ground with lugubris pikes are mostly centrals however daemons and psittacus do well with them. From experience.

It's good to see you here Grey.

I've kept 7-8" pikes (celidos) with 6-7" Geos (winemilleri) before. A little pushing and shoving but no serious damage. Sorry... couldnt be more helpful.

I have a 16" Venezuelan Pike that gets along great with a 4" Geo. The Geo will hang out just beside him and he doesn't seem to mind at all. I've never even seem him try to take a swipe at him. I will say though, that if your Pikes pair off and mate then you will have a problem because they won't tolerate any other fish in their vicinity.

Thank you Pete. It's been a year or two since I've done anything but stalk a few odd posts. I kick myself for sending you the argyrostictus and taenioparius 5-6 years ago!

From my experience I would say definately not. The ones I have kept might be a touch less agressive then lents but get a good bit larger. The last male I had terrorized my 220g with large centrals americans. He was probably 14" and finally met his match with a 9" male grammodes that he lived with for a couple of years.

Depends on tank size. I've noticed pikes are most aggressive to other large carnivorous fish or fish that are small enough to get eaten. My tapajos pikes were fine with geos as we're my lents. My giant cinctas hated them. You have to try it to know for sure.

I had a 16 inch xingu 1 male (actually 16 not eye balled) and he absolutely wrecked a 6-7 inch geo grabbing onto his tail and ripping him up. Geo is still alive today! However with smaller pikes it usually works decently well as long as u crowd them or give them a large tank to run around. I've had better success with large Severums than geos. I'm thinking of doing some satanoperca in my 300 with my pikes though. Just depends on their individual personality really. Atabapo 1 can be hyper aggressive it all just depends on the individual.

My lents ruled my 210 but they never actually got violent with my G. winemilleri or G. brachybranchus. They did, however, hate my male psittacus and constantly went at him, and he was happy to push back. Maybe he kept them so occupied that they ignored the geos.
