A friend of mine is moving and he is getting rid of one of his smaller tanks. He has 2 Crenicichla acutirostris ( i believe from his description). Could I possibly put them in a 75 gal with a JD and 2 GT's? Or will they cause chaos? If so, I can always buy the whole setup from him, and add yet another tank to my arsenal. I have experience with other types of Cichlids, but I have never kept any type of Crenicichla.

I would go for it. They are awsome fish and you probally won't be able to find a deal like your friend should offer you. From my ex. with Crenicichla, they are easy fish to take care of, although I have never kept acutirostris.

If they do turn out to be Crenicichla acutirostris, I wouldn't put them w/ the JD and GTs. Acutes represent the "softer side" of the pike cichlid world and would likely be uncomfortable in a tank w/ fish as aggressive as those that you mentioned. This is a great species of pike; but they don't pack as much heat as some of the others. A 75 gallon tank would likely suffice for a pair of acutes if you are able to keep up w/ your water changes. I would certainly not use anything smaller. However, I think that to keep any other substantially sized fish in a tank that size would definately be over-doing it.

yeah i think Im just gonna buy his whole tank and the fish with it...its an incredible deal, and they are pretty cool fish.

Aye, acutes are very laid back pikes...kinda out side the pike norm..haha. I would definately jump on it cuz they are awesome fish that stand out and catch peoples eyes easily! Love them!
