Howdy,

Got a pair of Crenicichla alta from Scott at www.amazontropicalfishllc.com about two weeks ago. They are now guarding eggs:

Did nothing special. It seems I was just lucky. There were some weather changes: cold, then warm with rain. The tank is not heated, so it's exposed to the conditions. It is in the basement, so shielded from direct outside, but still affected by weather. Food was mostly frozen krill, crystal red shrimp, and spirulina.

Now I have to get back into the BBS business if they hatch.

Nicely done!!! Definitely an awesome thing to get your Crenis to breed for ya! Welcome to the forum btw! :)

Scott needs to update his website, lol. No idea what he does and doesn't have any more.

Very cool man, congrats. Scott is who I got my cincta from. Good guy.

Great news! It's a fairly rare treat to spawn pikes, I was very tempted to buy some Alta from Scott at ACA this year. . .

I used to breed cold water South American Annual killies, mostly from the Austrolebias genus and some from the Megalebias genus. Those fish are fine even at 40F. My basement only gets to 62F the lowest I have recorded, so it was good enough for those fish.

For these Crenicichla, the temp was 74F at the time of spawning. I have added a heater and took it to 78F.

I forgot to mention, I also play drums in the basement, not joking. :screwy:

It stays warm enough in Delaware to keep your tank unheated?
