Hey guys I'm a new MFKer although I used to lurk all the time so I guess I'm not new... Anyways I've always liked pike cichlids but have had bad luck with lugubris types. I once had a 9 inch Vennie that got HITH and I did 50% changes a day and it still died :(. I noticed that many vendors have CR. Atabapo II for sale. From what I've heard is that 1. buy bigger, more stable ones 2. Do lots of water changes or you get HITH 3. feed a balanced diet. Is that it or is there anything else I'm missing?

I'm debating about whether I should spend money on Atabapo II or get a lepidiolamprologus. Lepidios seem to be more hardy as they are a Tang, but IDK if the pike isn't actually as hard to keep as what I've read then I think I'll just get an Atabapo II since there colors and pattern is pretty nice.

Pikes are great fish I love em and have always kept one , Atabapo II are really prone to hith though so if thats the pike that catches your eye be really dilegent in water changes and filter maintenance as well as diet, I personally have fell in love with my Lenticulata! They are much hardier than the atabapo's and much more attractive as well as being easier to come by now. Which ever one you choose good luck with em and Happy fishkeeping!

Doesn't having harder water make it easier for them to get HITH? And for Lenticulata do all of them get that spectacular orangish Cr. marmorataish coloring when they hit 12 inches? Or does only the rio Atabapo ones color up?

Right now he' about 8-10" and yes hes from aquascapeonline and supposedly a wild caught rio atabapo lenticulata, Gotten tons more freckles and colors are getting deeper. One of my favorite fish ever and in 15 years I've kept some really nice fish

Have you ever had any other pikes beside him? And has he ever developed any problems? I've seen ones cheaper from the Rio Bocon from TUIC so I think I can wait and get some from him.

I've had venezuala's, atabapo II, bellycrawlers, sveni's, lucious and Xingu I the only problems I've ever had was with the Xingu. The Lent is a lil more aggresive than the others but not a killer
