One of our importers of nice rare fish (got my Uaru fernandezyepezi from him, and he also got in C. multispinosa "Suriname" and C. zebrina!!!) got in pikes with the description:

"Crenicichla cf Lugubris - Young Red pikes from Orinoco"

Anyone know what these are, and how they will look like as adults? Some preliminary googling said that these are sp. Venezuela, but vennys hardly seem Red as described.

Atabapo II or Ladder Pikes are sometimes sold under that name, I believe that the last order that my LFS got in from Columbia that went under that name were Atabapo II. It is ALWAYS a guessing game with pikes, unless you get photos before the shipment.

No idea till you see the fish
There are too many that can be listed under Lugubris (though usually vennys, Atabapo II and even sp Atabapos)

You forgot to mention C.Jegui

Anyway he said that it's unlikely Atabapo II since the exporter would have clearly stated it.

So wait for the fish to come in and see is best

cf. lugubris can be very interesting crenicichla, we've had some in the past - one with red eyelids! they are not vennies, johanna, or any other lugubris group. currently have a super-nice female cf. lugubris 'red-green'.

Good luck with the new creni, we would of course love to see some pics!!!
