I have the opportunity to pick up a 6" C. cincta. How aggressive are these pikes? I know they get rather large, so I was hoping they'd be able to hang with some of the larger CA/SA "badboy" cichlids in a suitably sized enclosure. I had a large "Xingu I" male that had no problem establishing himself as king in a tank with some pretty rough customers (A. labiatus and P. loisellei to name a few) but was never a real bully, just threw his weight around here and there; no casualties whatsoever. He almost acted as a peacekeeper in that if he saw two others fighting, he'd whoop up on both of them and send them back to their respective territories. With similar inhabitants, should I expect the same outcome with C. cincta? Are they generally any more or less aggressive than C. sp. "Xingu I"?

Generally Cr. cincta can be considered a fair amount more aggressive than Cr. sp. 'xingu I'. Mostly due to their incredible size. Cincta is definitely one of the bruisers in the Lugubris group.

They aren't horribly bad though, and many people have them in community settings. Mtn Pike and Taz both have at least one cincta in a community setting without much trouble. :)

I'd definitely jump on it though, cincta are GORGEOUS pikes, especially at such a large size. One of my fav. Crenicichla. :)

I have had my Cinctas with all kinds of fish and the only issue was with each other. Once I separated them there has not really been any issues the smaller one was in a tank with 3 Johannas and actually hung out with the odd man out.
