Picked up a bag of these juveniles last fall. They didnt quite match the online description so I talked to some folks and they put me in contact with the breeder. He had gotten the parents from a going out of business sale.He entered them in njas show as green pike cichlids and won reserve of show in 2005.They were Id as Crenicichla dorsocellatus by Dr. Paul Loiselle at the show. The breeder said they achieve a max size of about 8"
Heres the baby pic when I first got them

Heres a pic of the largest one now.Look at that belly!Youd think it was eating its tankmates! But no one is missing.Maybe full of eggs?

Very nice fish.....

Never seen that fish before, it's very nice!

Proteus or lucius were the guesses when I posted up pics of the 2" juveniles I got last october.Got 6 for $8 at auction lost one so I still have 5.
So you guys think that female is gravid? Two of the people that bred them before said one day there will be a pair with eggs and the rest of the pikes in the tank will be in tiny pieces!!!

wow that is a beautiful pike! yes if they're gonna have babies and other pikes are in the tank, I'd imaging there's going to be trouble.... I'm new to pike cichlids myself, but I'd say either remove the others or add tons of pvc tubes for caves (and get a tank divider handy in case you need it in a rush!)

grats on the upcoming fry and a beauty fish

Forgot to add feeding a diet primarily nls 1mm and kensfish 1.5 mm cichlid pellets.
