rural Calif.
mid-growing, were recommended to me as ok for my 180G geo tank.
I'm wondering about aggression, & smallest tankmates they'd prey upon.

What are your current tank mates?

They shouldn't be too horribly aggressive, considering they are a type of Saxatilis I believe. I've never personally kept them myself, but I know they are in the states right now.

Expect 8 to 10" for adult size, the deeper bodied the fish with them the less chance of them getting eaten. Tetras smaller than 3" are game, and even then they might be eaten.

RH geos, heckelii, 8-10? inch BGK. currently lemon tetras but deeper/larger schoolers in plan.
severum on list. considering Australoheros oblongum & some acaras. still processing choices.
want varied peaceful community, but not heavily stocked.

my searches on labrina indicate more like max 6-7 inches.?

that was a mistake. (yawning) I meant the largest fish they'd prey upon.

I should clarify: I've never owned a pike of any type. was considering dwarf, when labrina was suggested.
I'd like to keep a peaceful variety of sizes & species in this tank.

I suggest getting dwarfs to be honest with you. Crenicichla notopthalmus is currently available I believe, and is an amazingly gorgeous pike.

Petspoiler, Peanut is spot on. If you want a "peaceful variety" of pike, your best bet is to go with a dwarf species. That's not a promise for sunshine and butterflies in your community tank, but atleast you wont have to wonder where all your fish have gone :D

Dwarf pike have amazing personality, and its super cool when they come up and take frozen bloodworms and PE mysis from your fingers.

Good luck!

thanks guys! I rather doubted that a mid-sized would be ok, but thought I'd ask anyway.
