Just trying to figure out what kind of Pike this is. I thought Lugubris was a whole class of pikes. I found a pic of a BLUE pike that i really like but when i do other searches none of the other pics even come close to this. I would post a pic but the web site won't let me use the pic to post here.

Lugubris is used to define a group of pikes, but there are also several pikes with in that group that share the name....Crenicichla sp. 'lugubris', Crenicichla sp. cf. 'lugubris' Crenicichla lugubris....there are so many its hard to keep up almost. Having an AquaLog definately helps. I really need to invest in one...haha!!! You should run over to Jon and Dans and use theirs!! Plus its a great chance to see their pikes. Sorry, i digress.

That does look like a difficult at best. You could end up with johanna, strigata, or sp. 'venezuela' to name a few. Best bet would be to talk to some importers and send them that picture, and be very very patient. It could be quick, or it could take several years....;)

I really like the deep blue color of this guy. Haven't seen one that even comes close to it. I was just over at john and Dan's house for x-mas and i love there fish room. Maybe i should send this pic to Jeff?

Jeff would be your best bet, I'd email it to Oliver as well though. TFD might be able to get it as well, but no garuntee as he's still kinda gettin used to pikes. Rapps would be your best bet, but you'll have to wait as right now isn't exactly the best collection time of pikes. Wait till about June, thats when the pike hot collection time really begins...;)

Plain and simple Lugubris RULE.They get big,and ther'e appetites are insatiable.Even if it's a darn Xingu 1 get it 'cause they are the best.

right now I'm just trying to figure out what Pike this is.

I said it MIGHT be in Aqualog....;)! Unfortunately I don't have an Aqualog, which would make things so much easier for me....for now its just my memory..haha. Doesn't really surprise me its not in there though, as there are a lot of pikes that they didn't get in there. They should update that book about once every 2 years...that would be awesome.

Was thinkin about it, you should send the picture to Vin Kutty....he will def. be able to help you accurately ID the pike. Just go to MostlyCichlids.com or type it in Google and go to the link...then find the contact me or whatever tab...and there yaz go!!
