I haven't had a pike in 6 months and would like to change that but I'm having a hard time finding a good resource, any suggestions for information? With so many species and several very rare or unobtainable species kind of wondering if it's easier to monitor a few vendors the research what they have as opposed to picking a few a hoping I stumble upon them.

Rapps has a lot of species in stock. He has Cincta, Macrothalmus, True Lepidota, Tapajos, jegui, Johanna machada, and cyclostoma.

Snookn21 has Atabapo Red, compressiceps,

Wetspot has lenticulata, Atabapo 1 and 2, Sveni, and belly crawlers.

It is a great time for like cichlids lovers.

What size tank and tankmates?

What size tank and tankmates?
Tank is 72"x30"x25"(LxWxD). Current stock is 2 sev, 2 psittacus, 1 polleni, 3 sd, 5 clown loaches, and 4 it dats. I am probably going to cut back to 1 dat eventually. Last pike I had was a bellycrawler so I'm looking for something else at this point. I've seen strigata and lents locally but they're probably too aggressive and possibly a bit big since I'm pretty well stocked.

If you want something smaller and less aggressive, look at the lepidota. Most lugubrious pikes can be tough. The lent is one of the meanest.

I had my adult pair of Cincta with Severums, hoplarchus, and a pair of wild oscars and they got on great. The pikes were a bonded pair and even spawned but they didn't demolish their mates like the Lents would of.

I really like cinctas. Might want to give them a shot.

I have always loved contact but never paid much attention to them once I had a big enough tank. The greater Chicago cichlid association has a swap meet in 2 weeks, hopefully I can avoid shipping for 1 fish. I'm going to place a web ad for cincta, lepidota and maybe one or 2 others and see what turns up.

On a whim I called the lfs I used to walk to with my dad 30 years ago and was told they had acutirostris for $9.99 so I stopped in expecting bellycrawler since it's where I got mine from but think there were vennies. For $10 I figured worse case scenario is its a jerk when older and I move it to my 75g sump until I find it a home. I should have gotten a pic at the shop but forgot so here's the back half while it retreats.
