What are the basic and in-depth facts about C. saxatilis?

I dont know, let me check....... breaker breaker one nine.....hey peanut_power ya got your ears on.

Aye...bookmark that site...Mostly Cichlids.Com.......just about the best place to go for pike cichlid info...:D. I've emailed Vin Kutty a few times actually...kewl guy. His site hasn't been updated for a few years though, so some stuff has changed...but its still pretty accurate...oh...and there are more pikes that he could add...;).

It is all good info but it does not describe their community behavior. A friend of mine wants one and I'm tryin' to help him out. Someone on a myspace cichlids group recommended me to you, Peanut_Power. Have you had any personal experience with this species? What is their behavior compared to something like C. sp. Belly Crawler (I had one of those, female, great fish)?

Ring tails are great. I had one in a 125 gallon with 2 Oscars. He behaved pretty much in the same fashion. Really didn't show any aggression, and had tons of personality. As long as they have there own space, and there is nothing hyper aggressive with them, they should be fine.

The ringtail pike... is that C. cincta?

I had a pair of C. sax for a time. The male would never accept the original female; but quickly paired w/ a second female that I later added. They held a territory in a 180 gallon w/ five larger sp. venezuela pikes. As often happens w/ these fish, the combo worked beautifully in the beginning. When it went bad, it did so quickly and the female was killed. I have a pick of them on my other computer. A little autopsy revealed her to be absolutely full of eggs. Anyway, they were beautiful and tough-as-nails. The male was approx. 9" and the female around 8".

do you still have your venezuela's those things are MONSTERS.......mine went from 3" to almost 13 in a matter of 6 or so months!!!! maybe a little closer to a year actually but still. phenomonal growth rate by these pikes and mine was a bastard to my FH but didnt bother anything that didnt try to bother him
